Tiwanaku is an ancient, Pre-Incan city considered by archaeologists to be one of the most important Pre-Colombian archaeological sites. It takes an hour to get there from the the Cementerio district of La Paz, and it is well worth it.
The citizens of this ancient state believed that the head was the dwelling place for the soul, so the city is full of stone heads!
