Pakistan: Heatwave Causes Several Diseases

Several diseases have spread in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to the ongoing spell of heatwave in the province.

Most parts of the province, including Peshawar, are facing heatwave for the last few days. A large number of people complaining of diarrhoea, vomiting, loose motions and dehydration are visiting hospitals in large numbers.

“I am a labourer. My condition worsened due to continuous vomiting in hot weather,” a patient at a hospital told TNN.

“My condition is very unstable for the last four days. I came to hospital last night and they gave me two drips. I came here again today as there is no improvement in my health condition,” another patient said.

Dr Sajjad of City Hospital, Kohat Road Peshawar says unnecessary activities outside home should be avoided during hot weather.

“No one should come out of home in hot weather without a towel or handkerchief. Maximum water must be consumed from Iftar to Sehr timings. Brown sugar, lemon and salt must be used in beverages. Special attention should be given to cleanliness as sweating causes cholera,” Dr Sajjad told TNN.

Doctors are of the view that we can avoid many diseases by adopting precautionary measures.
