PORTUGAL: Six Senses’ First European Resort Opens In Douro Valley,

Douro Valley

Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas introduced its first resort in Europe in the beautiful Portuguese UNESCO World Heritage area of the Douro Valley. Nestled across 20 acres, Six Senses Douro Valley offers 57 guest accommodations, ranging from superior, deluxe and river rooms to spacious suites and villas with one, two or three bedrooms.

Chef Paulo Matos heads the culinary team at Six Senses Douro Valley and will embrace his passion for local flavors by offering guests signature dishes and sharing plates created using traditional open-fire ovens and clay pots.

An interactive and instructional program offers guests the opportunity to be guided in the varieties and styles by leading Portuguese winemakers from the surrounding valley and the resort’s wine directors. With more than 80 grape varieties in Douro, guests can participate in every stage of the winemaking process, from planting and stomping to eventually blending their own wine.

The expansive Six Senses Spa measures more than 24,000 square feet, featuring 10 treatment rooms and a heated indoor swimming pool with water jets, a steam room, a sauna and a laconium. The spa menu includes locally inspired, grape-based treatments freshly picked from the Douro vineyards and citrus fruits picked from the Douro orchards. There is also a Visiting Practitioner program featuring more than 100 of the world’s best wellness healers, practitioners and experts. The group’s popular Yogic Detox and Yogic Sleep Programs are also offered, appealing to different levels of yoga practitioners.

Six Senses Douro Valley is the 10th property to join the rapidly expanding Six Senses portfolio.
