The Mozambican government has formed a commission to fight the kidnapping and trafficking of albinos.
The commission will comprise experts from the ministries of Justice, Interior and Religious and Constitutional Matters, according to VOA Radio.
The Mozambican law criminalises discrimination against albinos.
According to the VOA report, the Maputo government will also carry out a campaign to promote the rights of albinos and assist them and their relatives.
Local NGOs too have raised the alarm over the offences against albinos.
Body parts
One of the NGOs, Albimoz, has proposed the formation of an umbrella union for the protection of albinos.
This year alone, 15 albinos have reportedly disappeared in Mozambique.
Nampula Province is said to be the nerve centre of the albino trafficking.
The disappearance of the albinos is linked to witchcraft and superstition that their body parts can bring prosperity or cure certain diseases.
“It is not true that our bodies can attract richness,” Ms Laura Amélia, an albino told VOA Radio.
