KENYA: UK Experts Train Security Staff At Airports

Kenya Airport Authority aviation security staff and other Kenya security agencies personnel deployed at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and other airports across the country have benefitted from an intensive training exercise conducted by and sponsored by the UK government.

Recent terror attacks in Europe and the downing of a Russian aircraft, when airport security in Sharm el Sheikh was reportedly compromised and defensive lines penetrated by collaborators who then planted a bomb on an aircraft bringing Russian tourists home after their vacation, have raised concern levels around the world, including in Africa.

The use of the latest technology in threat detection is thought important to stay ahead in the game but more important is the human component where staff needs constant training and retraining to be able to properly read scan results and images, besides of course understanding the need to be friendly with passengers while carrying out their jobs.

Information received from Nairobi confirms that the British High Commission’s Regional Aviation Security Liaison Office has confirmed that UK experts had been in Kenya to conduct a joint training exercise for KAA and other security agencies working at Kenya’s airports.
