UNITED KINGDOM: Help Us To Make Tourism Better

Tourism Concern has been working for over 20 years to ensure that the people living in overseas tourism destinations, especially in the developing world, receive a fairer share of the benefits from tourism, the world’s largest and fastest growing industry. We are the only independent organisation in the UK actively campaigning against exploitative tourism industry practices and promoting sustainable, fairly traded tourism which respects local communities and maximizes the benefits to them of the industry. We are not funded by the industry and as a small charities we have no fundraiser (we spent less than £1600 on fundraising last year) but instead rely on our Members for the majority of our funding. We also undertake specific appeals for donations to support current campaigns, such as current campaign to protect the backwaters of Alleppey or to produce the ethical travel guide.

We also rely on supporters to raise funds through sponsored events – either organised by us, such as those below, or taking part in another event and raising money for us. We realize our issues are more complex than those of some other charities, however every penny raised goes towards our campaigns and as a small charity your efforts will really make a difference to or work.
