Governor Evans Kidero yesterday asked city residents to turn up in large numbers and shop at the refurbished Westgate Mall when it reopens on Saturday.
The mall will reopen after 22 months since the attacked by al Shabaab militia on September 21, 2013. Some 69 people were killed and scores injured in the attack.
Kidero took a tour of the mall accompanied by its managing director Alex Trachtenberg and Nakumatt Supermarket managing director Atul Shah.
The governor said the mall will officially open to the public from 10am on Saturday. Nakumatt has already stocked its shop in the mall ready to resume business.
Other shops in the mall such as Bata are already stocking their shelves. "We were very sad after the attack, but because of Kenyans indomitable spirit that is always positive we are back at the mall," Kidero said. The mall was refurbished for Sh3.7 billion. The road leading to the mall has also been renovated. Shah asked the city residents to come back and witness a new experience in entertainment and shopping.
