South Africa: Complex New Regulations For Visitors

There are 15 different documents and 37 unique scenarios for children traveling in and out of South Africa since the implementation of the new immigration regulations for South Africa on June 1.

But a new app has been created to help clients cut through all the confusion about which documents they’ll need when visiting with their children or grandchildren. The Child Visa Checklist app, developed by the Discover Africa Group, asks three simple, multiple-choice questions to help travelers or travel agents:

• With whom is the child travelling?

• What is the parental status (married, divorced, legally separated etc.)?

• Are there any other special circumstances (adoption, foster care, whether both parents are still alive, etc.)?

Once you have responded to these three simple questions, the app will show you exactly which documents are needed.

Andre Van Kets, creator of the Child Visa Checklist App, explained: “We initially created the app so that our travel consultants could fully understand the new child visa requirements and better serve our clients. The app was so well received that we’ve decided to go ‘open source’ with it and let anyone in the tourism industry, and travelers themselves, access the information.”
