BOLIVIA: Tourists Stuck In Bolivia

The border of Salvador Mazza in the Salta province has been blocked due to protests, resulting in around a thousand stranded tourists. Inhabitants of the cities Tarija and Chuquisaca in Bolivia are requesting royalties for the Margarita gas well in the region.

Tourists have been allocated into 20 groups on both sides of the border. The blockade has also caused disturbances for trucks and private vehicles and has been ongoing for six days already.

Some buses have extended their routes to avoid the protests but there is growing anger amongst those waiting to cross the border.

Bolivia’s president, Evo Morales has requested negations between the Tarija and Chuquisaca representatives and the president of Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales Bolivianos for the sharing of the Margarita gas well’s revenues.

Military personnel were sent by the Morales government over the weekend to control the area.
