KENYA: DHL Upgrades JKIA Operations

INTERNATIONAL logistics firm DHL Express Kenya is investing Sh200 million at its Jomo Kenyatta International Airport hub to boost cargo handling.

These include installation of new material handling equipment, increasing the capacity of the current conveyor belt and an overall facelift of the facility.

The company said the investment is expected to increase cargo handling capacity from 20 to 30 tonnes daily.

The 2200sq metre facility was opened in 2014 and has been operating on a 24 hours basis, consolidating inbound and outbound express shipments, and trans-shipment to the DHL global network.

It serves as a regional hub for transit cargo to Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia and Rwanda.

Gateway manager Amos Kabarage said the upgrade was driven by growing need for logistics services within the country and the region.
