Kenya: KDF Pilots Succumb To Lamu Helicopter Crash Injuries

Two Kenya Defence Forces pilots involved in a helicopter crash in Bar’goni, Lamu County have died.

KDF spokesman Col David Obonyo confirmed on Tuesday that the two had succumbed to their injuries.

The helicopter crashed and burst into flames Monday evening at the National Youth Service training field.

Col Obonyo said the Hughes MD-500 Defender helicopter suffered technical hitches moments before it landed at the Bar’goni military camp.

He said the pilots were returning to the KDF camp after a routine patrol.

“There were two military helicopters that had arrived at the Bar’goni camp at around 6.30 pm. One landed safely. The other one developed mechanical problems as it was landing. It had only the pilot and the co-pilot. They were immediately rescued but sustained critical injuries,” said the spokesman.
