VIETNAM: VietJet Air Launches Hanoi-Taipei Flights

VietJet Air, international low-cost airline from Vietnam, has become the first budget airline to fly between Taipei and Hanoi.

VietJet Flight VJ5972 will depart from Hanoi (Noi Bai International Airport – HAN) at 15:10 and arrive at Taipei (Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport – TPE) at 18:50 (local time).

The return flight VJ5973 will depart from Taiwan’s capital city at 19:50 and arrive in Hanoi at 21:30 (local time).

VietJet Air’s flight between Hanoi and Taipei takes 2 hours and 40 minutes one way, and is operated every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

VietJet’s new route was put into operation right before the New Year Lunar holidays in order to meet the increasing travel/business demand from the two countries.

The new route is also to ease the travel of people, who have lived and worked for a long time in Taiwan (China), to unite with family members for Tet holidays.

According to Vietnam’s tourism authority, the number of Taiwanese visiting Vietnam rose 112.8 percent last year to nearly 440,000, trailing only the number of visitors from mainland China, South Korea, Japan and the United States.

VietJetAir is operating an intensive flight network in Vietnam and is planning to expand its operation throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

VietJet Air was previously operating daily round trip services between Taipei and Ho Chi Minh City.

The Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam (CAAV) fined VietJet Air US$960 in 2012 for organizing five women of candidates in a local beauty contest to perform a Hawaiian themed-dance without first gaining permission to celebrate its maiden flight to the tourist hub of Nha Trang.

VietJet Air fleet includes 35 aircraft and additional 179 aircraft orders as of January 2016.
