MARASA PROUDLY JOINS UGANDA CONSERVATION FEDERATION TO CALL ATTENTION

TO WORLD LION DAY – AUGUST 10, 2015

Nothing quite epitomizes the wildness of the ‘dark continent’ better than the African lion. For hundreds of years the lion has captivated visitors to this ancient land. Over millennia lions have been at the centre of African mythology and folklore across the continent, and today, continue to influence Africa on a monumental scale.

Having worked in Uganda for over 100 years, we provide some of Uganda’s most impressive safari lodges and are showing our support once again this World Lion Day by donating $1 of every room occupied at 3 of our largest lodges in Uganda (Chobe Safari Lodge; Paraa Safari Lodge and Mweya Safari Lodge) on World Lion Day (10th August) to the Uganda Conservation Foundation (UCF). Premier Safaris will also provide lion conservation trips over this period to get a more in-depth understanding of the lion prides within Queen Elizabeth national park.

UCF’s Conservation through Action programs to provide practical support to revitalize and protect natural habitats, biodiversity and to help defend lions in the national parks from poachers. Donations will also benefit the vulnerable Ishasa tree-climbing lions in Queen Elizabeth National Park. Guests of the lodges will also be invited to donate to the UCF.

World Lion Day is the first global campaign to celebrate the importance of the lion worldwide and to call attention to the need for conservation efforts in the lions’ behalf. Organizers say, “Since the dawn of man, the lion has played an integral role in our lives: symbolically, religiously, culturally, economically and biologically. To lose the lion from our world would be to lose part of our global heritage.”

Guests can see the splendid lion in his natural habitat by going on game drives at Chobe Safari Lodge and Paraa Safari Lodge, both in Murchison Falls National Park, and both scenically situated on the River Nile. And they can view a particular wonderment – tree-climbing lions – while on safari at Mweya Safari Lodge, located in Queen Elizabeth National Park on the amazing natural channel, Kazinga, running between salt water Lake Edward and fresh water Lake George. The channel attracts a multiplicity of animals and birds, including one of the world’s largest concentrations of hippos and numerous Nile crocodiles.

Arrangements to see the Ugandan lions can be made through Premier Safaris.
