UAE: Dubai International Airport Overtakes Heathrow As World's Busiest Airport

With tourism getting more popular with every passing year in the desert city, it is no wonder that Dubai International Airport has been named as the world’s busiest airport for two years in a row in 2015.

Earlier it was London’s Heathrow which was the world’s busiest airport but Dubai overtook Heathrow in 2014, with data revealing that passenger traffic rose to 6.01 million passengers in November from 5.57 million a year earlier, taking the total so far in 2015 to 70.96 million. It confirms that Dubai airport's 11-month passenger traffic is higher than Heathrow's full year traffic.

Interestingly, December was extremely busy for the airport and it is expected to cross the 77 million mark for 2015. This could be due to a larger number of passengers travelling during the holiday season. Other than the numbers peaking during holiday seasons, Dubai has also become an important hub for connecting flights to regions like Europe, South Asia and Southeast Asia among many more.
