UAE: Iranian Ship Smuggling Drugs Seized

UAE security authorities have seized an Iranian ship that was smuggling drugs and people, the state WAM news agency said on Tuesday.

WAM said a joint operation team from federal anti-narcotics departments and Sharjah Police seized more than 11kg of hashish and 142,725 illegal pills on the ship which was seized at Khaled port in Sharjah.

Colonel Saeed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the Anti-Narcotics Federal Directorate-General at the Ministry of Interior, said the raid uncovered large quantities of narcotic substances hidden in caches on the boat, and a total of 10 people were arrested, some of which were Iranian citizens.

Al Suwaidi added that two of the men who were apprehended were hiding in a tank and were found unconscious due to the lack of oxygen and high temperatures.
