Virgin Australia has become the launch customer for SITA's new 'future check-in' technology in the carrier's new domestic terminal at Perth Airport.
Aviation technology specialist SITA has developed the world's first integrated hardware common-use hybrid check-in desks which allow the airline to quickly switch from self-service bag drop mode to a traditional full-service check-in counter in one common-use platform.
"This is a very exciting time for both Virgin Australia and SITA. The airline's new domestic terminal at Perth Airport has been designed to manage passengers quickly and with the level of service they want. Working together with Virgin Australia has allowed us to combine our innovative ideas and deliver this ground-breaking technology," said Ilya Gutlin, SITA president, Asia Pacific.
The tech was developed using SITA's global AirportConnect Open platform and integrated with partner Daifuku BCS for baggage management and Vedaleon Technologies for the application software.
The hybrid desks are the first in operation worldwide and set a new standard for airport check-in flexibility, said SITA, which provides various technology solutions to more than 1,000 airports globally.
