INDIA: India's Jet Airways Cabin Crew Suspended After Mid-Air Sonu Nigam Concert

Last month, passengers on an Indian chartered flight were pleasantly surprised when singer Sonu Nigam decided to give them an impromtu mid-air concert. Now, all the cabin crew members from the Jet Airways filght have been suspended for allowing Nigam to croon on the plane's in-flight anouncement system.

India's aviation safety regulator Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) asked the airlines to suspend the cabin crew, for "misuse" of the intercom. "All cabin crew on the flight have been taken off flight duty for enquiry and corrective training to reinforce strict adherence to operating procedures," Jet Airways said in a statement.

Nigam, in turn, has criticised the move. "I've witnessed an elaborate fashion show, small concerts in an aircraft," he said. "This lack of common sense, according to me, is the real intolerance."

According to reports, Nigam and all the passengers on the Jodhpur to Mumbai flight were returning from a marriage. Videos of the singer performing popular songs such as "Do pal ruka" from the film Veer-Zaara and "Panchhi Nadiya" from the film Refugee soon went viral.

This is not the first time that an Indian airline has been reprimanded for offbeat in-flight entertainment. In 2014, the DGCA had suspended two SpiceJet pilots after one of them left the cockpick to watch a dance performance by the cabin crew as part of the Holi festival celebrations.
