WA Police have identified the skeletal remains found in the Goldfields in 2012 as Dutch man Tom Van Boheemen.
The remains were located inside a sleeping bag in bushland about 25km east of Kalgoorlie.
Language on the man's clothing label and a cigarette lighter led detectives to believe the remains belonged to someone linked to the Netherlands or Germany.
After a long investigation by the missing persons unit, forensic testing resulted in a positive DNA match to Mr Van Boheemen.
Major Crime Squad Detective Inspector Gene Pears said he was pleased to provide some answers to the man's family.
Mr Van Boheemen had been travelling in Australia since December 2001 and was reported missing by family in the Netherlands in 2003.
There are no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death at this stage and police say he was suffered from pre-existing medical conditions.
