UAE: Emirates Continues Daily Flights To Cairo

Emirates is continuing to fly twice daily to the Egyptian capital, Cairo, with no changes to its schedule, a spokesperson said.

Etihad Airways Partner airline Alitalia suspended freight and mail transport on its passenger flights at Cairo International on Friday as part of new security measures introduced by the Italian carrier. The airline will not transport luggage that is traveling without an owner.

Asked if Emirates had introduced any new security measures, a spokesperson said "Emirates' operations in Cairo continue as usual. The safety of our crew and passengers is always our topmost priority, and we are closely monitoring the situation."

The new security efforts introduced by Alitalia follow the crash of a Russian passenger aircraft over Egypt's Sinai Peninsula on Saturday October 31. US and British officials have said a bomb on board the aircraft may have caused the disaster.

Following crash, Emirates announced it would no longer fly over the Sinai until the cause of the incident was determined.

British, Irish, Dutch and Russian governments suspended all flights to and from Egypt's Sharm Al Shaikh airport in the Sinai this week over concerns with Egyptian airport security standards.
