This is a preliminary report about FlyDubai flight FZ981 that crashed in Rostov on Don airport (Russia) on 19th March 2016.
Fly Dubai flight FZ981 crashed at Rostov-on-Don airport in southern Russia, killing all 55 passengers and seven crew members on board. The Boeing 737-800 was en route from Dubai to Rostov-on-Don, when attempted a first approach during heavy rain and went around.
Fly Dubai flight FZ981 joined then an holding at 8000 feet then 14.000 feet waiting for an improvement of the weather.
In the meanwhile a Superjet 100 of Aeroflot (SU1166 flight from Moscow) attempted approaches 3 times and for 3 times he went around : after this third attempt the Aeroflot flight diverted.
At the second attempt of Fly Dubai flight FZ981 , according to the ATC recordings the captain called for “go-around” but the airplane then – apparently – stalled , and came down with a vertical speed of more than 20.000 ft/min and crashed at the end of the runway.
There were no survivors , the airplane was completely destroyed and burst into flames.
