SPAIN: Tourist Tax On Arrival Waiting For Holiday Makers In Majorca And Ibiza

The island authorities approved a duty promoting “sustainable tourism” and will hit sunbathers with a fee of up to £70.

Shockingly, the tax will apply for holidays taken from July 1 – even if they were booked in advance.

Local government plotted the tax in March, long after many had already booked their breaks leaving furious Brits feeling like they've been conned.

The news comes after it was revealed ISIS are plotting to attack holidaying Brits by planting bombs under sunbeds.

And Daily Star Online exclusively revealed how holidaying Brits flocking to Spain are even more at risk of an attack this summer.

The fees add up to two Euros a night per person and will be paid direct to hotels or wherever people check-in.

The rates depend on the hotel’s star rating – with one to three-star resorts costing one Euro a day per person while four to five star hotels will cost two Euros a day per person.

It means a family of four with children over 16 could pay £70 in tax for a fortnight holiday – and unexpected hefty extra burden with budgets tight.

Win Taylor, who booked a holiday break to Majorca in September, is livid about the news.

"Our travel company sent us a warning email."

"We knew nothing about it."

"By now most people have booked their holidays so they have us over a barrel. You feel like they are cashing in."
