Two Indian Climbers Missing On Mt Everes

At least two Indian climbers went missing above 8,000 metres on Mt Everest and another sustained frostbite injuries while attempting to summit the world’s highest peak from Nepal side, expedition organisers said.

According to Wangchu Sherpa, Managing Director at Trekking Camp Nepal, two climbers from West Bengal — Paresh Nath and Goutam Ghosh — have gone out of contact since Saturday night.

Other members of the team — Sunita Hazra and Subhash Pal – were, however, rescued by climbing Sherpas to lower camps, he added.

The trekking agency informed that they were out of the GPS tracker. “Sherpas rescued two of them near south summit point while fate of two others is still unknown,” Sherpa said.

According to him, Subhash along with a climbing Sherpa made it to summit while others were reportedly suffering from severe illness with inclement weather that resulted into snow-blindness.

Four climbing Sherpas were also stranded near Camp IV, base camp officials said.

Meanwhile, the Indian woman climber suffered of severe frostbite injuries near Camp IV while descending to lower camps from Mt Everest summit.

Pemba Sherpa, Manager at Seven Summit Treks informed that Seema Goswami was airlifted from the Everest region.

“She is undergoing treatment at Norvic Hospital,” he added. Seema summitted Mt Everest on May 20.
