A teenager died on a school trip after his face was sliced off by a street sign.The schoolboy from Lesotho was fatally injured by a street sign while riding a tour bus with classmates down this narrow South African street.
The 16-year-old looking out of a bus window as it drove down a narrow street in Durban, South Africa, when the tragedy happened.The boy, who has not been named, was among a group of 106 students visiting from Lesotho, a landlocked country surrounded by South Africa.
A security guard who witnessed the tragedy told the Durban Mercury that "everyone was crying" after the incident.
He said the bus first hit a sign and the boy looked out to see what was happening when he was struck by a second pole.
"I wanted to help, but I couldn't. He was still breathing - blood still gushing - when I got to him. But there was absolutely nothing I could do for him," said the security guard.
