You'll need a head for heights for Rotorua's newest tourism attraction, the Redwoods Treewalk.
Officially opened on Saturday, the Redwoods Treewalk is a collection of 23 bridge sections and 22 decks suspended up to 12 metres high among 100-year-old Redwoods that enables walkers to get a bird's eye view of the forest.
The Treewalk is the brainchild of Alex Schmid, who officially opened the attraction with Rotorua Mayor Steve Chadwick.
Schmid said he was happy to be finally opening the attraction after six years of development.
"There's a different view of the majestic trees and maybe you can find some inspiration, or just enjoy the view," he said.
Chadwick said the newest addition to Rotorua's tourism offering was a good example of "an opportunity recognised and moved on."
The Treewalk uses eco-friendly engineering with the series of suspension bridges and decks attached without screws or the need to create holes in the trees.
The walk is 553 metres long and Schmid said it's open for use by anyone able to walk unaided, though a maximum weight of 120kg applies to all tree walkers.
The Redwoods Treewalk is located by the Redwoods i-site and is open from 8.30am to 6pm.
