NEPAL:Flag Man Back After Touring 75 Districts

Laxmi Narayan Shilpakar, popularly known as the ‘Flag Man’, has returned to Kathmandu after travelling across all 75 districts of the country.

The nationwide journey that the 61-year-old Flag Man began on November 17, 2015 to promote recognition and significance of the national flag and create awareness among the people came to an end on April 23 this year.

“I traveled length and breadth of the country. I was taken aback to find some people in Janakpur and Jumla and Humla had no idea about the national flag I was carrying,” he ranted. “Some curiously would ask me if I was carrying a specific political party’s flag,” he raved.

A former carpenter, Shilpakar told that he began the campaign of waving national flag in various places of the country exactly a decade ago.

Now the Flag Man has returned to the town completing a nationwide journey, visitors, including locals and foreigners have other reason to visit Basantapur Durbar Square where Shilpakar waving a huge national flag has been one of the major attractions in this UNESCO world Heritage Site.
