ETHIOPIA: Zebidar International Hotel Inaugurated

Over 500 investors with a registered capital of five billion Birr are operating in the town.

Burayu Town Administration announced that it is making preparations to take measures against investors who have not invested in the land they were given. Built with a capital of 55 Million Birr in the town, Zebidar International Hotel was inaugurated yesterday.

At the inaugural ceremony, Town Mayor Dhaba Dufisa said that investment has been growing in the town owing to the favourable investment climate created by the incumbent. Under the previous regime, the area was identified with the killing of innocent people by military order, but these days, it has come to be a residence for over 200,000 people.

"The public need hotel and other recreational services. Besides creating job opportunity for youth in the town, the Hotel is expected to provide various services to people in the town. The town administration will provide continued support to such investors."

So far, over 500 investors with a registered capital of five billion Birr are operating in the town.

Understanding that many of the investors who received the land before three and so years were not engaged into construction activities as per the permission of the investment office. And some others are constructing what they want by violating the investment permit. And some others have also been transferring the land to others.

Indicating that the mayor office open for development investors, the mayor said his office has now making preparations to take various measures on investors doing bootleg tasks on the land they took. It also plans to facilitate conditions for over 200 development investors who are waiting land for investment. He also called on investors to participate in the expansion of infrastructure, ensuring good governance as well as pay taxes as per the schedule etc

Hotel Owner Dessalegn Kerssie said: " I do not want to recall the ups and downs I faced so far, because it is just history. Anyways, my dream has come true. Now, the owner of the hotel is the public. Thus, if the support of the town administration is with us, we have a plan to invest more," he added.

Hotel General Manager Yonas Amaha on his part said that by the assistance given to investors, hotel and tourism industry has been developing from time to time. And the construction of the hotel has been taking place on 1,500 square meters of land. It has created job opportunity for over 80 citizens. It has got 43 rooms, bar and restaurant, gym and laundry service, sauna bath and meeting hall, among others, he added.
