An irate buffalo is reported to have killed a man at Shangrila Coffee Estate in Karatu District. The deceased was identified as 32-year-old Samson. Samson who had gone to Karatu Thursday last week to visit his relatives.
It is reported that Samson, a resident of Mererani, Simanjiro District, ran into a herd of buffaloes which were feeding in the coffee farm.
Arusha Regional Police Commander (RPC) Charles Mkumbo said the body of the deceased was eventually discovered by passers-by with deep wounds probably inflicted by the buffalo horns.
"There was also a herd of buffaloes surrounding the body and it took a while before it could be removed from the scene," he said.
Buffaloes, elephants and other wild animals usually roam the Karatu District when travelling between the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), the Northern Highland Forest Reserve and the nearby Lake Manyara National Park.
Samson's body was later taken to the Karatu Lutheran District Designated Hospital for autopsy and transported to his home village of Mererani for burial. In another incident, a rowdy motorcycle rider, Nangayai Lekoloo, who was probably drunk, rammed into an electric pole at Namanga border post and died instantly.
The victim, a resident of Olendeke, was riding a motorcycle with registration number T-160 CFM.
