BOTSWANA: Cross Okavango Expedition

The 2nd Cross Okavango Expedition led by writer/photographer Thalefang Charles in conjunction with Botswana Tourism Organisation (BTO) is set for July 23 to August 8.

The expedition embraces the use of mokoro (dugout canoes) from Seronga to Maun and would this year include local artists according to a press statement.

Local artists such as musicians Stiga Sola and HT, poet Leshie Lovesong, painter Abel Makondo and photographer Pako Lesejane would form part of the expedition to appreciate the Okavango Delta and garner inspiration for their art compositions.

"The artworks would form part of the celebratory artworks by Batswana on the country's 50th independence Celebrations and presented at an Okavango Delta Art Exhibition event organised by the BTO in September."

Further, the press release states that the expedition collaboration with artists aims to promote conservation, share the Okavango Delta with Batswana, promote tourism and arts, as well as celebrates Botswana's golden jubilee.

The Conservation Music Project from US, expert Bayei polers from Seronga and a film crew producing a television documentary will form part of the expedition team.
