TANZANIA: Tanapa To Compensate Former Residents Of Ihefu Valley

Tanzania National Parks (Tanapa) will next month pay more than Sh362 million to the 600 people who were relocated from Mbarali District's Ihefu Valley ten years ago.

The former residents of Ihefu Valley were then underpaid, with some getting as little as Sh3,500 and this time Tanapa plans to compensate them accordingly.

Tanapa's chief conservationist, Vitalis Urulea made the promise during a meeting between the regional commissioners for Mbeya, Njombe and Iringa. The meeting aimed at discussing how best to implement Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa's order to solve the land dispute.

The Prime Minister had ordered the three RC's, Amos Makalla (Mbeya), Rehema Nchimbi (Njombe) and Amina Masenza (Iringa) to find a solution to the land conflict between Tanapa and the residents of the villages in question.

Mbeya RC, Amos Makalla promised to make sure every resident is paid appropriately according to the size of land and property they owned.
