ETHIOPIA: Catering And Tourism Training Institute Unveils Ten-Year Strategic Roadmap

The Catering and Tourism Training Institute under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism yesterday unveiled its ten-year strategic road map. The Institute held a day-long consultative meeting with tourism service providers and stakeholders.

Institute plans to building the capacity of trainees by organizing practice-based training engaging hotels, tour guides and other actors in the sector.

Institute Director General Ashebir Tekle said that the Institute has set a new platform to utilizing domestic tourism for national development. The roadmap is expected to play crucial role in modernizing the sector by providing necessary inputs and improving ties with sector actors.

Currently, the Institute works in coordination with the actors to generate sustainable income from the nation's immense tourism potential, he said.

According to Ashebir, the road map assess the Institute's link with stakeholders and helps in meeting the prerequisites for becoming competitive at the global level and producing competent human power.

Institute Research and Consultancy Expert Taglo Kassa said that backing the nation's tourism sector with qualified human power predominantly paves way to fully benefit from the sector. Stakeholders need to give priority for local cultural tourism potentials, he added.

According to him, the Institute plans to building the capacity of trainees by organizing practice-based training engaging hotels, tour guides and other actors in the sector.

The Institute was established in 1969 with the objective of offering training in the sector. Currently, 3,500 students are pursuing education from level III to degree programme.
