First African Biofueled Plane Takes Off And Lands

South African Airways (SAA) in partnership with Boeing, Sunchem Chemicals and SkyNRG has managed to fly a biofuel plane successfully.

The first ever of its kind in South Africa, took off from Johannesburg two days ago and landed in Cape Town with no issues whatsoever.

Powered by a fuel which is blended from jet fuel and tobacco, South Africa Airways CEO Musa Zwane told the press that the crop is locally grown and viable for this project.

With the push on anti-smoking, SAA hopes to help the main anti-smoking doctor, Dr. Aaron Motsoaledi to get rid of tobacco while earning the country income.

Mr. Zwane said that SAA hopes to have half of their fleet flying on biofuel by 2022.

The fuel which was used for this first flight is refined in the United States of America (USA)
