Contaminated Chicken Pulled Off Union Coop Shelves, Refunds To Be Made Instantly

Union Coop has withdrawn Sadia frozen chicken from all its branches in Dubai after receiving information that they were not fit for human consumption.

Suhail Al Bastaki, Director of the Happiness and Marketing Department at Union Coop, said the move was a precautionary measure to ensure consumers’ safety and health.

Al Bastaki called on customers who bought Sadia frozen chicken from Union Coop to approach the branch, along with the receipt and the purchased product, to get a refund.

Once we were informed about this incident of suspected spoilage of frozen chicken, we gave immediate instructions to pull out the chicken from all of our stores not just from the affected one,Al Bastaki said.

The company also posted the announcement on its social media pages and urged customers to contact its toll free number 8008889.

In reply to some posts, it said the refund will be limited to customers who bought the chicken in the past three or four days.

Neither Al Bastaki nor officials from Dubai Municipality's Food Safety Department or Sadia were immediately available for comments.

The company's statement did not clarify which batches of the frozen chicken were affected or in which branch they detected the spoilage.

However, a video, which supposedly showed the affected chicken packets being removed from the shelves indicated that they were dated May 13.

The video being circulated on the social media also indicated that the chicken packets were being removed from the Al Barsha branch of Union Coop.
