TANZANIA: Dodoma Airport Revamp, Over 200 Homes Affected

About 236 houses in Makole ward in Dodoma are marked for demolition to pave way for the renovation and expansion of the Dodoma Airport.

Speaking today to the Citizen in his office Dodoma Regional Commissioner Jordan Rugimbana said his office has already evaluated the houses and is currently soliciting funds to compensate the residents.

The authorities will give residents time to vacate their houses after being compensated.

Mr Rugimbana has also allowed consultations with residents those who would not be satisfied with the reparation.

"I remember during the Mbagala bom blasts, some of residents were not satisfied with the compensation, after the review we established that their properties were under estimated... you have all rights to challenge the compensation," he said adding.

The acting director general of the Capital Development Authority (CDA), Mr Edward Mpanda, said they have allocated at least 300 plots of land at Ilazo Extension area for residents who will be evicted to pave the way for the Airport project.

"The plots have been surveyed and shall have all necessary infrastructures," he said.
