Israel Tourist Board and Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), are targeting to promote tourism between Israel and Tanzania, making the two countries work closely together in marketing historical and wildlife tourism.
When implemented, Israel tourists will be visiting Tanzania and East Africa for wildlife safaris, while Tanzanians will be traveling to Israel for historical religious holidays.
Tanzania Tourist Board Managing Director Devota Mdachi was in Tel Aviv recently for a three-day familiarization tour that was planned to enhance and attract Israelis to visit Tanzania and to explore attractive sites in Israel for Tanzanian holidaymakers.
When affected, big crowds of Tanzanians will fly to Israel for holidays in holy cities and Christian historical sites.
Mdachi visited Israel for three days, together with the Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Aloyce Nzuki, and met Israel tourism stakeholders, including tourist travel agents.
Israel is very eager to cooperate with us in making Tanzania’s tourist attractions known to the Israeli public. Last year, we received 22,000 tourists from Israel. They told us a bigger number will come this year, she said.
She said they used Israel media outlets to market Tanzania’s tourist attractions and their uniqueness in the world.
We received many applications from people wanting to visit our beaches and national parks, she said.
Mdachi said: Katavi, Mahale, Ngorongoro wildlife parks, and the island of Zanzibar are popular names in Israel.
In Tel Aviv, the Tanzanian officials told an audience of tourist stakeholders that Israelis who will invest in modern hotels and restaurants in Tanzania would be welcomed and that they would attract many customers.
Alon Hovev, an Israel investor and owner of Sima Safari Company, told the meeting that he chose Tanzania because of its climate conditions and the hospitality of Tanzanians.
Tanzanians are very hospitable people, and I admire their lifestyle. Tanzania has many attractions, with pristine beaches and game parks, he said, adding that Hovev is married to a Tanzanian.
Statistics show that the number of tourists coming from Israel is on the increase. In 2011, over 3,000 tourists visited Tanzania, while in 2016 the number climbed to 15,000 tourists, Mdachi said.
She expressed TTB’s optimism that the tour would be of paramount significance, considering that Israel had made headway in the tourism sector.
A team of ten Israeli visitors made a familiarization tour in Tanzania’s Gombe National Park, the famous Chimpanzee sanctuary, for a special mission to open the park’s unique attractions in their country.
Drawn from various media outlets in Israel, senior and prominent travel writers visited the park recently where their commitment to write and market the park in Israel through their media houses included blog channels.
Among the journalists were artists and tour operators who took part in the trip that was organized jointly by the Tanzania Tourist Board, Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA), and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.
Apart from journalists, one film actor; a radio and TV celebrity; and two senior officials from Safari Company, an Israel-based tour company, took part in the trip.
The Israeli visitors said their tour in the Gombe Chimpanzee sanctuary was amazing and a wonderful experience that will remain in their memories for many years to come.
Israel is a potential and up and coming tourist source market for Tanzania which travel trade business executives are venturing to capture.
Tanzania has been among African countries attracting Israeli tourists who mostly prefer touring wildlife parks and Zanzibar.

TANZANIA: National Tourism Television Channel To Telecast Very Soon
A new tourism television channel dedicated exclusively for the country's attractions will hit the sky soon at the national broadcasting television.
This follows the signing of an agreement between the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation (TBC), the Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA), Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) and the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) in Dodoma on Wednesday.
The TBC Director General, Dr Ayub Rioba said at the signing ceremony that, the channel would run twenty four hours a day with a focus on the national parks, beaches, archeological sites, marine parks, game reserves, conservation, among others.
I am very delighted for this milestone achievement giving TBC an opportunity to play its role as a national public broadcaster in the promotion of the tourism sector, he said.
TBC as a national public broadcaster has a role not just to inform but to help the country promote the tourism sector to boost the foreign currency reserves.
The introduction of the new tourism channel marks the first time in the country's history for a local television station to reach out to diversified international markets.
The agreement also comes in the wake of President John Magufuli's directive when he visited TBC mid last month that the national public broadcaster should introduce a tourism channel.
Under the agreement, TANAPA, NCAA and TTB will finance the project aimed at promoting the local touristic attractions across the country and to the outside world.
Currently, tourism is the country's forex earner, generating over 2.1 billion US dollars (about 5tr/-) annually.
TBC also runs TBC 2 Television channel and radio stations, namely TBC Taifa, TBC FM and TBC International. It is the fastest growing brand, according to the recent Geopoll study.
On her part, the TTB Managing Director, Ms Devotha Mdachi said that the partnership marks a new era in the promotion of the country's tourism sector.
This is a proof that our efforts of promoting tourism are winning support from all other players in the public and private sector, she said.
On his part, TANAPA Director General, Mr Allan Kijazi said his institution was excited about the partnership with TBC.
TBC has shown that we can use our own media to project the tourism attractions not only to Tanzanians but to the whole world, Mr Kijazi said.

TANZANIA: Air Tanzania , Tanzania Tourist Board In Deal To Promote Tourism
Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) and Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) has signed an agreement aimed at promoting tourism in the country.
The event was held in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday. After the signing ceremony, TTB Chairman Justice (rtd) Thomas Mihayo and ATCL Board Chairman, Eng Emmanuel Korosso, said the agreement will boost the sector growth and its contributions to the economy.
“One of the important factors in boosting the tourism sector is airline services. If you have done research, you will agree with me that countries with strong and stable airline services attract more tourists,” Korosso said.
According to the Bank of Tanzania (BoT) monthly economic review for October this year, travel receipts grew by 12.8 per cent to 2,267.4 million US dollars following an increase in the number of tourist arrivals.
The government recently vowed to purchase two new passenger planes to boost the tourism industry.
Increased air access, with many carriers now flying direct to Tanzania, new luxury hotels on the Mainland and Zanzibar, improved infrastructure and tarmac roads on safari circuits are also major factors contributing to tourism’s success story. TTB Chairman Judge Mihayo said air transport and tourism depend on each other in revenue generation.
“Among many areas we agreed to work together is having a seminar to ATCL workers and pilots about tourism attractions in the country,” he said.
He said that ATCL is determined to promote domestic tourism destinations and make the country hub where tourists will visit Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater to mention a few.

TANZANIA: Tanzania Tourist Board Goes eMarketing
The Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) in its efforts to aggressively market Destination Tanzania globally has embarked into a global e-marketing campaign by developing a modern destination online tourism portal concurrently with the establishment of an Official Tanzania Tourism App.
The Tanzania Online Tourism Destination portal (www.tanzaniatourism.com) is the tool that will not be only used for information dissemination but also allows bookings and payments to be performed online.
It is specifically meant for supporting all Tanzania tourism firms especially SMEs both in rural and urban areas to increase their earnings, conduct their business more easily, give them more visibility, increase their company sales and profitability and contribute immensely to poverty alleviation and the national economy.
Speaking during a press conference held at TTB headquarters today, the Acting Director of Marketing Mr Philp Chitaunga said that the use e-marketing in this era of advancement in technology is inevitable and it is on increase all over the world.
He further noted that the tourism industry is highly dependent on constant, massive flows of information and the success of sales and production depends on a considerable extent on the quality of information.
“Our Portal will save as a vehicle for tourism information dissemination since it contains much important information regarding Tanzania as a unique destination in the world and yet one can even make online payment for the service he or she wants when will be visiting the country” added Mr. Chitaunga.
The tourism industry is highly dependent on constant, massive flows of information and the success of sales and production depends to a considerable extent on the quality of information.
Most of the tourism agencies in Tanzania use partner agencies, located abroad in the source markets for access to tourist markets. Because of the nature of their operations, and the fact that their services cannot be booked and paid online, all bookings are done directly through their partners in the source markets.
This causes revenue leakages and creates more benefit to foreign investors rather than our local tourism agencies and entrepreneurs.
Therefore the portal will serve as a tool for directly accessing tourist markets as well as online payment in which will allow tourists to contact the service providers a move which will avoid leakages of revenue and enable local tourism agents to benefit more.
As for the Tanzania tourism official App Mr Chitaunga said that the App is called Tanzania Tourism and that has come at a time when there are many efforts made by private companies’ and individuals’ to establish tourism Apps such as Tanzania Safari Guide; Tanzania Travel Safari; Destination Tanzania, Tanzania Travel and Tourism etc but this one is developed by the Tanzania Tourist Board and now serves as the Official Tanzania Tourism App.
“The official App Tanzania Tourism, as it for the Portal contains detailed information on various tourist destinations in Tanzania. Among it gives an overview of what Tanzania can offer as unique tourist destination in Africa, things to do, accommodation, and how to plan your trip” he pointed out.
He discloses that the App will later have provision for the potential visitors to book and make online payment as it is the case for portal.
The official App which is available at Google play store and is accessible to Android mobile phones users worldwide and will soon be found in AppStore (iPhone).
This adds on to a number of marketing and promotional tools and used by the Tanzania Tourist Board in promoting destination Tanzania globally.
The introduction of this international tourism e-marketing campaign is expected to bring about more positive impact in the development of the tourism industry in the country.

TANZANIA: Olduvai Gorge Is In Tanzania
Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB) has been following up the ongoing discussions on social media following a video clip being posted on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iveX49WE7fw) which has been circulating through various media channels showing a person claiming that Oldupai Gorge, a site in Tanzania that holds evidence of the earliest existence of mankind is in Kenya.
This video clip has triggered a lot of discussions on the different social media among Tanzanians and other people who have good wishes for Tanzania tourism who know very well that Oldupai Gorge is in Tanzania and NOT in Kenya.
As a public institution, responsible for marketing and promotion of Tanzania tourist attractions, Tanzania Tourist Board is also dismayed by this misleading information which intends to distort the good work the Board has been doing in promoting Tanzania tourist attractions including the Oldupai Gorge.
The Board would like to take this opportunity to strongly refute this statement delivered by the said person from a neighboring country while addressing one of the sessions of the International Young Leaders Assembly (IYLA) in USA, August 2015.
We would like to inform the world that as it is the case for Mt. Kilimanjaro, Serengeti National Park, Zanzibar to mention just a few, Olduvai Gorge which is referred to as the Cradle of Mankind, where Dr. Louis and Mary Leakey discovered important hominid remains of the nutcracker ‘Australopithecus bosel’, who lived nearly two million years ago, is also in Tanzania and not elsewhere in the world. It is located in the eastern Serengeti Plains in the Arusha Region and about 45 km, from Laetoli, another important archaeological site of early human occupation.
The paleoanthropologist-archeologist team Mary and Louis Leakey established and developed the excavation and research programs at Olduvai Gorge which achieved great advances of human knowledge and world-renown status. Olduvai Gorge is one of the key tourist attractions for Tanzania.
We call upon Tanzanians and those with good wishes for Tanzania wherever they are to continue supporting the effort’s undertaken by TTB in marketing Tanzania and her all tourism attractions. We believe that it is the role of every single Tanzanian to promote Tanzania as Africa’s best destination and ask them to join and support Tanzania Tourist Board in its efforts to promote destination Tanzania.
We would like to applaud the reaction made by Tanzanians and non-Tanzanian within and out of Tanzania, who through this incident were able to stand up as ‘one voice’ and tell the world that OLDUPAI GORGE is INDEED IN TANZANIA!

TANZANIA: Tanzanian Delegation Heads To ITB In Berlin
According to information received from Dar es Salaam will nearly 170 representatives of Tanzanian tourism businesses head to Berlin to attend the world's largest tourism show, ITB.
The delegation will be spearheaded by the Tanzania Tourist Board, which put the participation for the exhibition together and which will showcase the country alongside TANAPA and dozens of hotels, resorts, tour and safari operators, local airlines and other tourism attractions.
KILIFAIR too will be in Berlin to drum up support for their own Moshi based tourism trade show and visitors to the Tanzania stand will be able to see the wide range of offerings available, from the islands of Zanzibar and Mafia across the southern and northern safari circuit.
It could not be ascertained if Tanzania's Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Prof. Jumanne Maghembe, will lead Tanzania's delegation to Berlin, where a number of tourism forums for attending Ministers would provide a perfect opportunity to network.
Tourism ministers from other countries in the Eastern African region, namely Uganda and Kenya, will be heading their respective delegations and notably will the trio of Rwanda, Kenya and Uganda once again have a joint stand space. The three will promote travel in Berlin not just to their own beaches and parks but across the Northern Corridor Integration Project countries, using the single tourist Visa for leverage.

THE Kilimanjaro Tourism and Industry Fair organization plans to hold an international trade fair to be held at Ushirika Sports Stadium here.

So far more than 154 exhibitors from Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda, Zanzibar, India, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia have registered for the fair to take place in early June.
The fair will include three days of networking and workshops for tourism industry, while there will feature also African fashion, arts and crafts.
Mr Kunkler said the fair that started last year at a different place here, is aimed at promoting tourism, industry and trade under the motto ‘Boosting Tanzania Tourism’.
“The fair is representing and promoting the Kilimanjaro Region and the Tanzania National Parks (Tanapa), to East Africa and to the rest of the world.
“Next to local and international tourism related companies, sponsors and several Tanzania organizations such as the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB),Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA), Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), have already signed in for 2016,” said the directors in their communiqué.

TANZANIA: Etihad Airways Flights To Dar es Salaam
Etihad Airways, the flag carrier and the second-largest airline of the United Arab Emirates, launched its daily flights to Tanzania on Tuesday, adding to the list a growing of Middle East carriers eyeing Tanzanian and African airspace.
Etihad Airways touched down at the Julius Nyerere International Airport (DAR) in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday and the Airbus A320 aircraft received a ceremonial water cannon salute. It will be operating daily nonstop flights connecting the business city of Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates (UAE) with Dar es Salaam.
The daily flights will be operated with Airbus A320 aircraft and set to attract more passengers from Tanzania and its neighbouring states. Etihad Airways joins the list of a growing number of Middle East registered airlines lobbying East African skies.
Dar es Salaam will be Etihad Airways’ 110th destination globally and its 11th destination in Africa and the Indian Ocean, reports from the airline’s head office in Abu Dhabi said. The flights will be connecting the Tanzanian capital with 45 destinations across the Middle East, Europe, the Indian Subcontinent, North and Southern Asia and Australia through daily flights, the Etihad report said.
Taking advantage of the fast-growing air connection between East Africa and the Middle East, Tanzania is lobbying tourists and travel trade investments from the Gulf States and the rest of the Arab World.
A team of tourist business stakeholders and marketing officials from Tanzania visited Dubai and other Middle East states last year, looking for potential tourists and investors in tourism from the Gulf States and invited them to invest in Tanzania’s fast-growing tourist industry, taking advantage of the Middle East airlines new routes.
Tanzania Tourist Board had launched marketing campaigns to attract visitors from the Gulf States through these airlines. Hotel and accommodations, hunting and camping safaris are areas of tourist investment and the Tanzania Tourist Board is looking to market them in the Gulf States.
Although the number of Arab tourists to East Africa is not as big as the European and American holidaymakers, there has been a notable number of hunting tourists from the Middle East to Tanzania and the rest of East Africa. About 15,000 tourists from the Gulf visit East Africa every year.
Although small in numbers, East African nations are taking advantage of the Middle East-registered airlines to be a lifeline for Arab-speaking holidaymakers. Airlines registered in Middle Eastern states that are flying to Tanzania include Emirates Airlines, Qatar Airways, Oman Air, Turkish Airlines and Fly Dubai, which are the most competitive over Tanzania’s airspace.
Middle East-registered airlines have taken over the Tanzanian airspace from the traditional European-based airlines which had pulled out their flights between key European cities and Dar es Salaam.
Among European carriers that pulled their flights out of Tanzania are SAS (Scandinavian), Sabena, Air France, Lufthansa, Aeroflot (Russia), Alitalia and British Airways.

USA: Terry Dale Promotes Tanzanian Travel Industry
Terry Dale, president and CEO of the U.S. Tour Operators Association (USTOA),
Terry Dale, president and CEO of the U.S. Tour Operators Association (USTOA), addressed the Swahili International Tourism Expo (S!TE) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, with what he called a “fireside chat, an intimate conversation with our partners,” in which he explained to travel professionals selling the destination of Tanzania that partnership was an essential tool in building their destination.
Now in its second year, S!TE is a travel trade show showcasing the Swahili Coast produced by the Tanzania Tourist Board.
The tourist board invited Dale to be a keynote speaker in recognition of the belief that targeting the elite tour operator association is the most effective way to reach the broad base of consumers in the U.S.
Dale began his talk with a brief introduction of the USTOA, explaining that it is not an organization that derives its value from its large number of members, but by their quality. The association has 54 corporate members representing 160 brands and also has 690 associate members, of which the Tanzania Tourist Board is one.
“It’s not about quantity,” Dale said. “You’re not going to see that number grow next year by a great deal. We are more like a family. We’re not driven by growth, but by quality.”
Thirty-eight of the association’s brands already have programs to Tanzania, Dale noted.
“We need to see that number grow to 50, to 75, to 100,” he said. “Part of my responsibility in being here today is to go back to our members and tell them, ‘I have seen firsthand how amazing Tanzania is and (recommend) that they include more of Tanzania, more of Eastern Africa into the products that we have to sell to the U.S. consumer.'”
Dale cited a Price Waterhouse Cooper economic impact study showing that tour operator members of the USTOA account for $13.5 billion in business annually. They moved 8 million travelers last year, a five percent increase over the previous year, and sold $9.8 billion in goods and services.
The way for Tanzania to build itself as a tourism destination, said Dale, is by constructing a partnership.
“That’s why I’m here today,” he said, “to try to forge that partnership and make that business grow on behalf of Tanzania.”
Dale explained to the audience the reasons why he is “bullish about the U.S. travel industry.
“It has tremendous potential,” he declared. “There is an educational hurdle” to surmount in getting into the American market, he conceded, but “it is feasible and possible” and something that needs to be addressed immediately.
Dale cited a number of reasons why the American market is an excellent target market for Tanzania, including the following facts and statistics:
Fifty-six percent of Americans are in the world’s high income group, and 46 percent have passports, a total of 110 million people, a number that has doubled since 2000.
“They have financial wherewithal to travel,” asserted Dale. “They have passports, but we have the educational challenge of helping them understand why Tanzania needs to be one of the places they visit."
In 2013, 30 million Americans traveled internationally, Dale pointed out. “But you have to educate them."
In referring to the global economy, Dale cited a list of trends that may have an impact on getting people to travel to Tanzania, including the softening of the Chinese economy; Greece trying to figure out how to handle its responsibilities to the International Monetary Fund as well as the European Union; the Fed’s upcoming raising of interest rates and the presidential political circus.
All of these have a potential impact on global economy, Dale stated, but he is still bullish about the U.S. economy.
Dale cited the Packaged Travel Index, produced by Cornell University, which studies U.S. consumers. The survey, conducted twice a year, showed that 84 percent of U.S. consumers said they want to travel internationally. In households with income of $150,000 or more, people want to travel three times a year.
“Those factors combined bode well for Tanzania,” said Dale, showing a strong potential U.S. market for Tanzania.
Dale then explained what USTOA members need from Tanzania tourism services providers, including “professional quality partners who can deliver the kind of experience that make our members proud. Professionalism is really key. Our members are all about building a personal relationship. They want to be able to look at you across the table and have the confidence that together you can create the kind of experience that we can all be proud of.”
That kind of experience, Dale said, is “all about authenticity.”
The U.S. consumer wants to rub shoulders with locals, he said. “And they can only do that if you have the interaction, the engagement between the traveler and the citizens of this country.”
Dale cited Tanzania’s "Soul of Africa" campaign as a step in the right direction, but said, “We still have a huge job ahead of us in getting that brand in front of the U.S. traveler.”

AN ORANGE COLOUR indicates that some stands in the tent have been booked
A RED COLOUR indicates that all stands within a tent are booked & paid for.
IMPORTANT: Priority is given to the triple stands (a whole tent). The Organizer reserves a right to re-allocate double and single stands to another suitable location of a similar standard.
After your booking is done, Karibu staff will confirm the booking by issuing an invoice and emailing payment instructions. We need to emphasize that invoices will be sent by the Karibu office after the reserved booking is done.
Full NAMES OF PARTICIPANTS and extra Karibu COCKTAIL INVITATION CARDS must be submitted by email to Karibu TMT, once you have indicated these on your booking form. Please ensure you refer to your 'Tent Stand Number' when doing so.
PLEASE NOTE: NO CASH transactions are possible. ONCE YOU HAVE RESERVED YOUR TENT STAND, an invoice will be emailed to the Exhibitor. When payment is received the Karibu administrator will turn your tent stand to RED and issue you an official receipt.
