A Cathay Pacific Airways flight bound for Delhi arrived one hour late after experiencing brake issues on Saturday evening in a journey described as a “near death experience”.
CX695 carried about 250 passengers and landed at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi at 10.17pm, about one hour later than scheduled. No injuries were reported.
The flight had departed from Hong Kong International Airport at 5.22pm on Saturday.
A Facebook message believed to have been posted by a flight attendant on board said the crew prepared for an emergency landing after one brake was not working properly.
The message’s author said she felt “near death” as some on board held hands across the aisles to pray. The message described sparks being visible from one side of the plane and a smell of burnt objects.
“I was very scared,” the author wrote. “My supervisor held my hand. At last, thank God. Thanks to all the cockpit crew. Landing was good and smooth. I cried and we hugged each other after landing.”
“This was the first time I had felt so near to death,” she added.
Cathay Pacific said there were suspected brake issues and that precautionary procedures were being taken.
“It landed uneventfully and was able to taxi to the parking bay,” the airline said of the plane.
