FINLAND: Helsinki Entices Hotel Real Estate Investors

Lately, a spate of interest in Helsinki has been seen among real estate investors involved in the hotel business.

The construction of a tower hotel is scheduled for the Jätkäsaari quarter this year, financed by the Norwegian property millionaire Arthur Buchardt. The news was reported by Helsingin Sanomat.

The high-profile Clarion hotel to be constructed in Jätkäsaari will be opened in autumn 2016. The 90-million-euro project will be fully carried out by Finnish subcontractors. An old warehouse next to the hotel will be renovated and made part of the hotel complex, serving as a conference centre.

The hotel has been leased to Norwegian Nordic Chose Hotels for 20 years. According to Helsingin Sanomat, the chain intends to open ten hotels in Finland’s growth centres over the next five years.

Other international chains have also been showing an interest in Helsinki recently. Helsingin Sanomat reported that the first Indigo hotel in the Nordic countries was launched in the city at the beginning of March. The design hotel belongs to a US chain.
