MONGOLIA: Hunnu Air Discontinues Hong Kong Flights

Hunnu Air announces the cease of its Hong Kong - Ulaanbaatar flight. The airline announced its decision to halt all flights to Hong Kong on November 5, 2014. According to the official statement, main reason behind the decision was the low passenger load factor on this route due to economic difficulties.

However, according to some rumours, another reason behind flight cease was the failure to reach an understanding between Hunnu Air and the company in the U.S. that leased Airbus A319 – the only jet aircraft in the airline’s fleet. The airline is believed paying 200-300 thousand USD for the aircraft as monthly installments.

Recently, some airlines of Mongolia found themselves in difficult sitatutions; thus, EZNis Airways - one of the significant domestic airline, suspended its operation in May 2014 and Hunnu Air halted almost all of its international flights (to Tokyo, Paris, Shanghai and Bangkok) soon after their inaugural flights.

The halt of Hong Kong flight by Hunnu Air leaves its rival MIAT Mongolian Airlines - the national air carrier of Mongolia, the only airline serving commercial flights between Hong Kong and Ulaanbaatar.
