INDIA: India To Promote Maldivian Tourism

Maldivian Ambassador to India Ahmed Mohamed has stated that discussions had been held between India and Maldives to promote Maldivian tourism in India.

The Ambassador said that the discussions were held in the Joint Commission discussion between the two nations.

He said that discussions were held on promotional activities that can be carried out. Ahmed Mohamed said that discussions were also held on starting direct flights between north of India and Maldives and increase the size of flights going to India.

He added that currently flights are held only for south India. As such, Ahmed Mohamed said that those in northern parts of India wishing to come to Maldives face immense difficulties. If such flights were started, Ahmed Mohamed said, it will benefit many immensely.

Previously, direct flights were held between Mumbai and Maldives, but had to be halted due to lack of passengers. However, researchers have said that regular budget flights between the two destinations will attract a significant number of customers.
