BURUNDI: Ruling Party Tells Beligians To Leave For Habouring Opposition

Burundi's ruling party has asked all Belgian nationals living in the country to leave, as daily killings continue following the controversial re-election of President Pierre Nkurunziza.

Last week, Belgium advised all citizens "whose presence is not essential" to leave the country.

Gelase Ndabirabe, spokesman from the ruling CNDD-FDD party confirmed the statement.

The statement does not mean that this is government policy or reflects the position of President Pierre Nkurunziza.

At least 240 people have been killed there since the demonstrations began in April.

There are fears of a Rwandan-style genocide in Burundi, which also has a history of tensions between Hutu and Tutsi ethnic groups.
