The State Museum of Art named after Savitsky has been chosen as the best museum of Uzbekistan. It was announced at the traditional republican contest “Museum is the mirror of the nation history”. The results of the contest were announced on 18 May, the International Museum Day.

The Savitsky Museum is located in Nukus, the capital of Karakalpakstan. It was founded in 1966 at the initiative of the Moscow artist Igor Savitsky who gathered the biggest part of the museum collection.

The exposition of the museum is dedicated to the history and applied arts of the people of Central Asia.

In addition, Savitsky built up the second largest collection of the Russian avant-garde of the 20th century, which has been estimated at tens of millions of dollars.

The museum halls display only 3% of the Soviet avant-garde artists’ priceless collection of paintings. Now visitors can opt in for a grand tour which includes the Savitsky museum repository at advance request.
