The islands of Santorini in the Cyclades and Corfu in the Ionian sea are among the 20 “Best Honeymoon Destinations for 2017-18” in the world, according to the digital news and information company U.S. News & World Report.
Tuscany ranked first and is followed by Tahiti and Bora Bora. The top 5 Best Honeymoon Destinations for 2017-18 include St. Lucia and the Fiji islands in the fourth and fifth place respectively.
Santorini ranked 14th for its brilliant sunsets, rich Greek food and romantic hotels. The island is almost tailor-made for those who have just said ‘I do’.
Honeymooners can lounge on red- and black-sand beaches before taking in historic sites or visiting the island’s wineries, the US News & World Report said.
The company urges newlyweds to visit the towns of Fira and Oia and catch a breathtaking view of the caldera; explore the impressively preserved Ancient Akrotiri and take a daytrip to Thirassia, and the volcanic islands of Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni.
Furthermore, it underlines that Santorini’s volcanic activity plays a role in many of island’s popular activities, from swimming to exploring ancient ruins once buried in ash.
Corfu ranked 18th on the list for its lush green landscape and sprawling, pebbly beaches.
Used as the backdrop for epic tales by both Homer and Shakespeare, the island of Corfu, or Kerkyra, continues to attract weary travelers looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, the US News & World Report said.
Apart from the stunning beaches, the island is also home to interesting museums and sites, including the Old Corfu Town, the Old Fortress and the Church of Agios Spiridon.
Both islands are also included in the 12 Best Destination Weddings Spots in Europe, according to the US News & World Report. Santorini ranked sixth and Corfu eleventh, while Tuscany, Porto and Paris top the list.
Santorini is highlighted for its plethora of pristine ocean views, as couples can choose to get married high atop the caldera or along the island’s east coast.
Being a bigger island, Corfu offers more venue options, with most preferable sports being the Venetian-influenced Corfu Town and the island’s chapels overlooking the waters of the clear blue Ionian Sea.

GERMANY: Germania To Add More Flights To Greece In 2018
The new destinations include the Greek islands of Crete, Karpathos, Kos, Lesvos, Rhodes and Zakynthos. Additionally, the number of connections to the island of Samos will be increased to two per week.
In 2018 Germania will also operate a new twice weekly service from Dresden to Athens. Moreover, in 2018 the airline will launch flights from Germany to Thessaloniki and Corfu.
Germania already operates seasonal direct flights from the German cities of Bremen and Nuremberg to Athens and also offers service to select Greek islands through a codeshare agreement with Greek airline Sky Express.
Top Kinissis Hellas is the General Sales Agent (GSA) of Germania in Greece.
New flights to Canary Islands and Portugal
Germania also announced that in 2018 it will fly to the Canary Islands of Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma and Tenerife. Also new to the airline’s schedule are the Portuguese destinations Faro on the Atlantic coast and Ponta Delgada at the Azores.
Also, in 2018 two flights a week twill continue to take off from Germany to Paphos in Cyprus.
Germania’s 2018 winter schedule also includes four flights a week for Tel Aviv.
In efforts to meet demand from the Turkish community in Germany, Germania offers an extensive choice of flights to Turkey.
The destination airports include Edremit, Alanya/Gazipasa, Hatay and Zonguldak. A new addition is Kütahya/Zafer, while the flights to Malatya are being increased.

CROATIA: Croatia Airlines Starts Flights From Zagreb To Pulkovo St. Petersburg Airport
Croatia Airlines has started regular air service from Zagreb (Croatia) to Saint Petersburg (Russia). The route will be launched for the first time in the recent history of Pulkovo airport. The carrier will operate the flights from 2 June to 23 October.
Travelers will be able to fly from the Northern capital of Russia to the capital of Croatia twice a week, on Thursdays and Sundays. Comfortable Airbus A319s with a capacity of 144 passengers will be operated on the route.
Before 2015, Pulkovo airport only had direct air service with Croatian resorts Pula and Split. In 2010-2014, over 62,000 passengers used direct flights between the two cities and St Petersburg. In addition, more than 21,000 travelers flew from Pulkovo to Zagreb and back via transfers in other airports, in 2010-2014.
“Every year many Russians choose Croatia, the country of rich history, magnificent nature and landscape, as their vacation spot. With the new route opening travelers will now be able to visit other points in Croatia, Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina using convenient connecting flights via Zagreb. At the same time, St Petersburg remains one of the most visited cities in Europe, with cheap Russian ruble making traveling to Russia even more attractive. It is our strong belief that the new Croatia Airlines service to St Petersburg will be in demand both among Russian and Croatian tourists, say Evgeniy Ilyin, chief commercial officer at Northern Capital Gateway LLC, the operator of Pulkovo Airport.
The tickets are already available with promo rates starting from €199 for the round trip.

ITALY: Naples Airport Seeing International Growth
Naples Airport doesn’t seem to go in for route launch celebrations, but that hasn’t stopped a number of airlines launching new routes to the Italian airport this summer including Air Arabia Maroc (from Casablanca) and Finnair (from Helsinki). This has helped passenger numbers grow by over 5% in the first 8 months of 2015.
Naples Airport, located in the town of Capodichino, around six kilometres north of downtown Naples, is Italy’s eighth busiest airport. In the first eight months of this year passenger numbers are up 5.3% indicating that the airport is likely to pass the six million passenger milestone for the first time in 2015. Traffic growth is being driven by international services where passenger numbers are up 10.5%, while domestic traffic has declined by 2%. Between 1996 and 2007 passenger numbers more than doubled at the airport, but since then the annual passenger throughput has hovered between five and six million passengers.
The airport’s seasonality profile has been stable in recent years, and scores a “good” 8.97 on anna.aero’s Seasonal Variation in Demand (SVID) calculator. Last year’s almost 10% boost in traffic can be attributed in large part to the decision by easyJet to make the airport a designated base at the start of the summer season. This saw the UK-based LCC add five new destinations (Brussels, Catania, Corfu, Malta and Mykonos) to its existing network, which has been followed up this summer by a further three new routes, with flights from London Luton having been launched at the start of the W14/15 season.
Milan and London are leading destinations
According to ENAC data, of the airport’s almost six million passengers in 2014, almost 1.1 million flew to and from Milan, with Linate flights carrying around 43% more passengers than Malpensa flights. London was the leading international destination, with London Gatwick the leading international route. Among the top 12 routes six are domestic and six are international (shown in bright green). In 2014, international destinations accounted for 57% of the airport’s traffic, with this segment of the market showing an impressive 18.4% growth. Domestic traffic by contrast fell by 0.5%.
The vast majority of services are to destinations in Europe with Casablanca (started earlier this year by Air Arabia Maroc) and New York being notable exceptions. Other new services launched during 2015 were to Athens (with easyJet), Helsinki (Finnair), Heraklion (Volotea), Leeds Bradford (Monarch), Moscow Domodedovo (S7 Airlines), Olbia (easyJet), Sofia (Wizz Air), Split (easyJet), Tel Aviv (El Al) and Zurich (SWISS).
New services announced so far for the rest of this year and 2016 include easyJet starting flights to Lyon in mid-December, while Jet2.com will operate flights to the airport for the first time next summer with the introduction of seasonal flights to Edinburgh and Manchester.

easyJet is now well established as the biggest airline at the airport, accounting for around 27% of flights and seats during the peak summer period. According to OAG Schedules Analyser a total of 34 airlines operated scheduled services at the airport this summer. Apart from the top 12 in the following graph, other notable airlines offering flights at the airport include Aer Lingus, Austrian Airlines, Blue Air, Brussels Airlines, SAS, Transavia and Turkish Airlines. A significant absentee given its major presence elsewhere in Italy is Ryanair.
