PHILIPPINES: Overseas Filipino Workers Daughter Wins Miss Tourism Philippines 2016

A daughter of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) has been recently crowned Miss Tourism Philippines 2016.

Sharyl Diana Catchillar, born in Milan, Italy, was the winning representative of Pangasinan in the beauty pageant, reported Manila Bulletin.

Taking up BS Biology at St. Scholastica’s College Manila, she dreams of becoming a doctor and earn a master’s degree in molecular medicine.

Sharyl and the other winners — Ethel Abellanosa, Miss Model of the World Philippines 2016; Jean Tumang, Miss Model of the Universe 2016; and Kritza Nicollite Serquina, Miss Bikini World Philippines 2016 — have been crowned at the Newport Performing Arts Theater of Resorts World Manila. They will compete in various international pageants.

Other winners that night were Jane Sotomayor, 1st runner-up; Karen Grace Atienza, 2nd runner-up; Queenie Marie Orbeta, 3rd runner-up; and Joana Espiritu, 4th runner-up.

“Our aim is to promote Philippine tourism locally and internationally. This is our advocacy,” Amelia S. Abarquez, president, Miss Tourism Philippines Foundation, reportedly said. Abarquez said, she is happy and honored with the participation and support of the Local Government Units (LGUs) who sent official candidates to the pageant.

As to the Miss Model of the World title, which is being questioned on social media, Abarquez reportedly maintained she has a franchise for the title.

Some 40 candidates competed in this year’s Miss Tourism Philippines pageant, now on its fifth year, with Francisco “Gareth” Blanco, Jr. as director and founding chairman, Manila Bulletin reported.

The coronation night will have a delayed telecast on ABS-CBN on June 26.
