KENYA; Daily Flights To Vipingo Launched To Boost Tourism

In a bid to boost tourism in the north coast, local aviation company Safarilink has begun daily flights to Kilifi through the nearby Vipingo Ridge airstrip. A return ticket will cost $99 (Sh9,855), excluding airport taxes.

The service is expected to boost the popularity of Mtwapa, Kilifi and Nyali by reducing the time it takes to connect to them from either Mombasa or Malindi airports. Homeowners and developers of exclusive real estate projects in these areas, such as the Vipingo Ridge golf estate, Mandharini and Ocean Seven, are also expected to benefit from the new schedule.

Addressing tour operators and county officials in Kilifi, Safarilink Managing Director John Buckley said the company has taken a long-term view of the service. “We are here to stay. We will not leave like some operators who pull out at the slightest hint of turbulence. The launch of this service to Vipingo is consistent with our strategy of connecting scheduled services to the best safari destinations within Kenya and across the border to northern Tanzania,” he said.
