Hawaii welcomed a record number of tourists last month, with those visitors spending another record $1.4 billion, the Hawaii Tourism Authority announced Wednesday.
Based on preliminary statistics revealed by the HTA, 816,345 travelers visited Hawaii by air or by cruise ship in July 2015. Visitation from the Western U.S. and Eastern U.S. grew 7.2 percent and 4.9 percent from July 2014, respectively.
Meanwhile, visitation from Canada and Japan last month grew 9.5 percent and 2.6 percent respectively.
Since the start of 2015, visitors have spent approximately $9 billion in Hawaii, a figure that represents a 3.6 percent increase over the same period in 2014.
Visitor arrivals since January have risen 4.2 percent from last year, by comparison.
All four of Hawaii's main islands have recorded visitor growth through the first seven months of 2015. Maui currently leads the way at six percent growth from 2014, followed by the Big Island, Hawai'i at 5.3 percent, Kaua'i at 4.9 percent and O'ahu at 2.7 percent.
"The growth we have been experiencing is keeping us on track for another milestone year for Hawaii's visitor industry," HTA president George Szigeti said in a statement via the Honolulu Civil Beat. "While the growth is not as significant as in previous years, we are still projecting to reach new records in spending and arrivals for 2015."
While the visitors from the mainland U.S. and Canada spent more during their time in the Aloha State in 2015, Japanese visitors have spent roughly 10 percent less than they did during the same period in 2014.
