IRAN: Tabriz Carpet To Find Its Museum

Head of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization said at ‘Tabriz; Global Hand-Woven Rug City’ festival that Tabriz carpet museum will be opened next October by allocation of sufficient funds.

Attending the ‘Tabriz; Global Hand-Woven Rug City’ festival on Tuesday in Tabriz, Masoud Soltani-Far said, “only 11 of the world cities have been nominated as global handcraft cities and we exploited special privileges to introduce Tabriz’s carpet art and industry."

“Tabriz enjoys deep historical roots in carpet art and industry and its prominent artists have produced extraordinary works which will now be presented to the world,” added Soltani-Far.

He recalled that, “the selection of Tabriz as the Global Hand-Woven Rug City will help its globalization increasing the city’s responsibility in providing necessary infrastructures and unity between organizations and people of Tabriz and Iran.”

Pointing to existence of domestic knowledge and art for carpet industry, the Vise-President asserted that, “the handcraft industry can have a positive impact on the realization of economic strength as well as helping Tabriz to become a major tourist attraction."

Soltani-Far further pointed to Iran’s success in nuclear deal stressing that, “our representatives had a great performance in the international arena and we hope exports of handicrafts, especially carpets will become possible with the lifting of sanctions.”

He also noted the importance of Tabriz carpet museum project stating that, “we are making attempts to supply sufficient funds to open this museum next year in October.”

At the end of the ceremony the special stamp for Tabriz carpet was unveiled and three separate credentials of the World Handicraft Organization were awarded to the Director General of the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts, and Tourism Organization, Mayor of Tabriz and Director General of Industry, Mine and Trade Organization.
