Before the new law, the right to have two international passports was granted only to those Russian citizens whose work was connected with regular trips abroad at least once a month.
According to the initiators of the law, the ability to have two passports would significantly expand the rights of travelers in Russia and eliminate a number of problems they are facing now.
For example, the new legislation will allow Russian citizens to apply for several visas at the same time. Apart from that, having the second passport would be useful while applying for a visa to a country that is on unfriendly terms with the others previously visited by the traveler.
The legislation comes into force after its official publication on Tuesday.
