Wizz Air Is Flying Hamburg

Wizz Air inaugurated services to Hamburg Airport on 17 April, moving its operations in the German city from Lübeck. Seen celebrating the start of the ULCC’s services from the airport along with the crew on the first flight from Gdansk are Stephan Erler, Senior Manager Traffic Development, Hamburg Airport and Sarah Evermann, Market Research and Statistics, Hamburg Airport.

Wizz Air commenced services to Hamburg (HAM) on 17 April, with the ULCC moving its operations to the German gateway from Lübeck, situated 67-kilometres away from the city. Wizz Air started its move by relocating its Gdansk (GDN) service.

The 560-kilometre sector will be served four times weekly. On 18 April, the carrier moved its two other routes from Skopje (SKP) and Kiev Zhulyany (IEV).

Both 1559- and 1439-kilometre sectors will be served twice-weekly (Mondays and Fridays).

Commenting on Wizz Air’s arrival, Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport, said: “We are delighted to welcome Wizz Air as a new airline for Hamburg Airport.

Gdansk, Kiev and Skopje are completely new destinations for which we previously had no direct service from Hamburg. We are thus further extending the variety in our route network and enhancing our comprehensive portfolio of flights to East Europe.

Wizz Air operates modern, environmentally friendly Airbus jets, which is good for the environment and good for our neighbours.” All three routes will be operated onboard the carrier’s A320 facing no direct competition.
