Yogatan Festival is a one day yoga event that takes place at the Upachaya Eco-Lodge & Wellness Resort in Mudhole, Roatan from 8:30am till 3:30pm (registration starts at 7:30am).
The fee includes three yoga sessions; morning welcome icebreaker; afternoon closing guided meditation; raffle; and buffet lunch with tea, lemonade and light snacks throughout the day. Other beverages and food items will be available for an additional fee.
There are ten classes to choose from, with five different instructors: Christine Etches, Michele Rauter, Elly Smith, Carla M. White, and Barbara Wastart, (see Class Schedule below). The different yoga styles available this year include: Yin, Vinyasa Flow, Standup Paddleboard Yoga, 108 Sun salutations, Kundalini Hatha Flow, Aqua fit, Hot Power Fusion, 8 Limbs of Yoga, plus another Aqua Fit session.
Sessions take place at 9:30am / 11:00am / 1:30pm.
Lunch will be poolside from 12:00pm – 1:30pm.
A closing guided healing circle meditation will take place at 3:00pm with the raffle drawing set for 3:30pm (must be present to win).
CLASS SCHEDULE
9:30 – 10:30
Mangrove Center – YIN with Michele : Yin Yang – a gentle start to the day, to awaken the body and open up the connective tissues, joints and fascia. Energizing the meridian lines by way of self-acupressure during 3-5 minute holds in passive stretches/poses, majority of which are done seated or laying. This class is great for all levels and especially for any major/minor injuries, aches and pains. The focus is on the spine and hips, and some fun facial and eye yoga will be done as well!
Dock – Vinyasa Flow with Christeen : All levels “Listen, tune in, do what feels right for your body!” This practice features a “Teen style”, YOUR style, peak designed well balanced flow that pays close attention to linking breath to body movement. Ground, meditate, play, relax and discover the true joy of Yoga. Poses are held long enough to offer explanation and modifications so you can truely create your variation of any asana/posture. Understanding we all have limitations, the focus of this session is YOU. Honor without judgement. Awaken and unleash your positive energy! We will gain flexibility, release tension, strengthen and tone the whole body, increase circulation, be true to ourselves and just endulge in the love and light of Yoga!
Bay – Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga with Carla : If you love the natural healing effects of water, along with the many physical and emotional benefits of yoga, then Stand Up Paddleboard Yoga is for you! Also known as SUP Yoga, this amazing, blissful combination will help increase your physical and mental stamina, all the while being at one with nature. Take advantage of our beautiful island water and weather, and bring a new perspective to your yoga practice!

Mangrove Center -Embrace Your Light: The Meaning of the Summer Solstice – Christeen : It’s that time of the year again as we draw near the Summer Solstice. We experience this as the longest day of the year and a time of celebration throughout history in many cultures around our beautiful EARTH. Join Christeen under the heat, warmth, and light of our sun star as we attempt to achieve 108 Surya Namaskara or variations of Sun Salutations which is a mandala or circle of poses celebrating our beautiful sun star.
Dock – Kundalini Hatha Flow – Elly : Our yoga class will consist of a blend of Kundalini to open and release the energy stored at the base of the spine, and Hatha flow to link movement and breath and build heat within to stretch and strengthen the muscles. Throughout the class we tap into energy centers to detoxify the organs, strengthen the immune system, calm the nervous system and open our hearts and minds. This class is for all levels.
Pool – Aqua Fit – Michelle : This class will be an exploration of the body through movement and breath. Allowing you to truly feel your body and joints at a deeper level, removing the challenge of weight bearing and balance on land. A playful practice to ignite joy and self awareness, while soaking in some vitamin D. This class is for all levels.

Mangrove Center – Hot Power Fusion – Carla : All levels welcome! A true blend of balance, core strengthening and flexibility, Hot Power Fusion combines the meditative, detoxifying qualities of hot yoga with the intensity of power yoga to help you deepen your yoga practice. Set to motivating music, you’ll focus on yoga postures that open your shoulders, hips and spine while strengthening your core and whole body. Let the natural island heat detox your mind and body!
Dock – 8 Limbs of Yoga – Barb : The practice of yoga is an art and science dedicated to creating union between body, mind and spirit. Its objective is to assist the practitioner in using the breath and body to foster an awareness of ourselves as individualized beings intimately connected to the unified whole of creation. In short it is about making balance and creating equanimity so as to live in peace, good health and harmony with the greater whole. It is more than just asanas (poses). Discover the 8 limbs of yoga and how they can help you transform the restlessness of the mind and enjoy everlasting peace. This is a lecture series and open to all levels.
Pool – Aqua Fit – Elly : A fabulous way to improve fitness and tone up in the water. This class provides a balance of aerobic, muscular strength and endurance components – giving you a total workout with little impact and join stress. Workout intensity is moderate and appropriate for all levels.
3:00 – 3:10 Mangrove Center – Tibetan Singing Bowls – Phyllis
3:10 – 3:40 Mangrove Center – Healing Circle Meditation – Barb : This is a meditation to heal and empower the healer in all of us. By chanting this sacred mantra we embody divine healing vibrations and raise our energy field to the vibration of Love. This mantra taps into the energies of the sun, moon, earth, and the Infinite Spirit to bring deep healing. It can be chanted to heal the self or to send healing energy to anyone you wish. Ra – Sun; Ma – Moon; Daa – Earth; Saa – Impersonal Infinity ;Saa Say – Totality of Infinity; So – Personal sense of merger and identity; Hung – The infinite, vibrating and real.
