Never one to shy away from doing things big, Singapore keeps building, building, building like there is no tomorrow: offices, apartment buildings, and of course, hotels. Marina Bay Sands landed a few years ago like a three-pillared spaceship ready for endless rooftop pool selfies, and Karl Lagerfeld brought a few design touches and one of his inimitable pearls of wisdom to Sofitel So just last year. Yet more is to come – here are six new hotels coming to the Lion City over the next few years:
The Patina Capitol, Singapore: The first and flagship hotel for Patina, we last stood outside the two historic buildings on Stamford Road in February, which will house 157 rooms and suites. A residential component takes up a modern wing next door. Last we heard, opening should be August 1. Stays last 24 hours, with free WiFi across unlimited devices, complimentary minibar and outgoing international calls, as well as access to a house car. The stylish website has a few more beautiful images, but no reservations yet – nor can we make them via Leading Hotels of the World. Last time we checked, they started just under SGD500 (about $350).
The South Beach Hotel, Singapore: Also promised for this year is Philippe Starck’s South Beach Hotel. You may recall the interior photos of the 654-room hotel we saw a few months back, and if you don’t, we highly recommend having a peek – they’re worth it. The hotel has shown up over at Preferred Hotels as part of its LVX collection, but rates aren’t available yet.
Premier Inn Singapore: Surprising as it may be, the UK budget brand is indeed branching out to distant shores: India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Maldives are on the hit list. But first, Singapore it is, with 300 rooms on Beach Road at SGD160-190 ($130-152) a night, coming around summer next year. Pictured above: a hub hotel room, Premier Inn's technologically advanced brand.
Andaz Singapore: Down the road from The South Beach Hotel, we saw the equally vast DUO development that will house Andaz Singapore in a much earlier stage of construction. The hexagon-covered multi-towered structure is due for completion in 2017, with about 350 Andaz rooms, an outdoor swimming pool, dining, and more. We can’t wait.
Clermont Singapore: We’re not entirely sure what is happening with Clermont Hotels, the brand that promised us in 2013 to change the face of the luxury hotel market. Clermont London is still proudly announced for arrival in 2014 on the group’s website, but last we checked it was mid-2015 and The Royal Horseguards Hotel it’s meant to take over is still very much in operation. Over in Singapore, construction was in the early stages at Tanjong Pagar Centre when we looked at it almost exactly a year ago, with the hotel due to be completed in 2016.
Yotel Changi: Part of the mind-blowing Jewel Changi Airport project, the 130-room Yotel will be the first for the budget-chic brand in Asia. We may just have to check in when it opens in 2018 to properly check out the 40-metre high Rain Vortex (above), its enchanting light and sound show at night, Forest Valley, and the rest of the 22,000 sq m (236,000 sq ft) of gardens and attractions.
