The 3 million nationals of the Southeastern European country will have the chance to enter Armenia visa-free, and remain there for a maximum of 180 days per year.
Such decision was taken today on August 30, during a session of the Armenian government, in which the respective draft decision was adopted.
The move is part of an attempt to boost tourism in Armenia, as well as to further strengthen bilateral relations with Albania and pave the way for the mutual recognition of both countries’ people.
It will not only contribute to boosting tourism, but will be a new beginning for the mutual recognition of the two peoples, outlining and developing new cooperation directions, a press release issued by the Armenian government, confirming the decision, reads.
Albania removed visa regime for Armenians in 2013. From then on, Armenians have had the chance to enter the Mediterranean country visa free for a period of 90 days, per 6 months.
The former communist state is known for its coastline that is as long as 476 km and extends along the Adriatic and Ionian Seas.
It is also known for its mountainous areas as the Albanian Alps, Skanderbeg Mountains and Korab Mountains, as well as the historical cities and sites.
On the other hand, Armenia, a Eurasian country located in the South Caucasus region, is mostly known for its mountainous areas and historical sites.
Its capital, Yerevan, is the top destination in the country for tourists.
Most of the visitors are from Russia, Iran and the US. In 2017 alone, Armenia attracted around 1.5 million travelers.
The abolition of visa regime for Albanian passport holders by Armenia brings the number of the countries Albanians can visit visa free to 115.
